Behind the Scenes of an Airbnb Property Shoot in Oxfordshire

When people browse Airbnb listings, first impressions happen incredibly quickly. Before guests read the description, check availability or compare prices, they are already forming an opinion based on the photographs.

Recently, I was invited by Allison to photograph her Airbnb property in Oxfordshire, creating a full set of updated interior images designed to help the property stand out online. During the shoot, Allison captured a behind-the-scenes photo of me working in one of the rooms, setting up lighting while photographing the space. It offered a genuine glimpse into the process behind professional property photography and how much detail goes into creating natural, welcoming images.

More Than Just Taking Wide-Angle Photos

One of the biggest misconceptions about property photography is that it simply involves using a wide-angle lens and taking quick photos of each room. In reality, creating professional property imagery involves careful planning, lighting and composition to ensure every space feels bright, balanced and inviting.

For Airbnb properties especially, the atmosphere of a space is incredibly important. Guests are not simply booking a room. They are buying into the feeling and experience of staying there.

The goal during this shoot was to create images that felt natural, warm and realistic while still showcasing the property at its very best.

Balancing Natural Light Indoors

Interior photography can often be challenging because rooms contain a mixture of window light, shadows and artificial lighting. Cameras do not always see a space in the same way our eyes do, particularly when bright windows and darker interiors are involved.

For this shoot, I used additional soft lighting with a Neewer lantern diffuser to help gently lift the room and create more even, natural-looking light throughout the space. This approach helps avoid the harsh shadows and overprocessed look that can sometimes appear in rushed property photography.

The aim is always to enhance the space while keeping the final result realistic and welcoming.

Creating a Better Online First Impression

Professional photography can make a significant difference for Airbnb hosts and holiday let owners. Strong imagery helps properties stand out in busy search results, encourages more clicks and can create a more premium feel for the listing overall.

Guests are often drawn to bright, clean and inviting spaces, and quality visuals help build trust before someone even arrives at the property.

Alongside photography, video walkthroughs and drone footage are also becoming increasingly popular for holiday lets and property marketing, helping potential guests get a much better sense of the layout and atmosphere of a property before booking.
